Hello! I am Asif Rashid. Welcome to my website!
I am a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, working in the Intelligent Manufacturing and Thermal Systems Laboratory with Dr. William King as my advisor. My research lies at the intersection of advanced manufacturing, 3D machine learning, and computer vision, with a focus on process understanding, quality control, and part traceability in additive manufacturing. I also perform research in process-structure-property relationships in large-scale metal additive manufacturing, working with alloys such as Ti-6Al-4V produced via Wire Electron Beam Directed Energy Deposition.
I received my Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2025, where I worked with Dr. Shreyes Melkote in the Melkote Advanced Manufacturing Research Group. My doctoral research focused on improving the microstructure and mechanical performance of components produced by metal additive manufacturing, while developing efficient Physics-Informed Machine Learning models for process optimization.
