Asif Rashid

Hello!

I am Asif Rashid. Welcome to my website!

I am pursuing my PhD Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology. I am also working as a graduate student researcher working in the Melkote Advanced Manufacturing Research Group with Dr. Shreyes Melkote as my advisor. My primary research interests are in the fields of Advanced Manufacturing Processes and Mechanics of Materials.

My doctoral research is focused on combining Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing based Metal Additive Manufacturing method with machining-based material removal and severe plastic deformation processes. My goal is to improve the mechanical properties, microstructure, and geometric accuracy of parts fabricated by Wire-fed Directed Energy Deposition method with strategic interventions of specialized secondary methods by developing an understanding and engineering the process-structure-property relationship of Robotic Hybrid Metal Additive Manufacturing. Knowledge and skills from additive manufacturing, subtractive manufacturing, robotics, and materials characterization are utilized in my research.

I completed my Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. During my Master's program, I was a graduate research student affiliated with the Laboratory for Advanced Manufacturing  Processes supervised by Dr. Muhammad Jahan, where I focused on understanding and developing a sustainable and efficient method for machining ceramic materials by electrical discharge machining from theoretical and experimental perspectives.

I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), which is the oldest and the most prestigious engineering university in Bangladesh.
